Kayakers reel in the big fish!
The inaugural Navarre Beach Kayak Fishing Tournament on Sept. 17 was a success, organizers say. “We would like to thank all of the sponsors for donating their time and prizes,”said organizer Blaine Willis of Ocean Excursions. “We met our goal for the number of entries, and the contestants had good weather on their side to make for a great day of fishing.”
The winners are listed with the size of their fish and their prize:
King Mackerel: 1st place: Robert Martin, 12 pounds, Shimano Spinning Reel from Academy Sports and Outdoors 2nd place: Rich Aloy, 5 pounds, gift certificates from West Marine and Academy Sports and Outdoors
Redfish: 1st place: Mike Clubbs, 8 pounds, Penn Reel from Academy Sports and Outdoors 2nd place: Jeff Gray, 3 pounds, Academy Sports and Outdoors gift certificate
Speckled Trout: 1st place: Mike Clubbs, 4.5 pounds, Penn Reel from Academy Sports and Outdoors 2nd place: Chad Bailey, 4 pounds, cooler from West Marine and sunglasses from Ocean Excursions 3rd place: Danny Branch, 3 pounds, gift certificate from West Marine
There were no fish weighed in for the flounder category.
All contestants were automatically entered into a drawing to win prizes from the sponsors. Robert Martin won a Mainstream Kingfish kayak from BoatUS.Chad Bailey won a surfboard from Eco-Beach. Danny Branch won a statue from tikistore.com. Florida Tent Rental donated the tent,The Pearl of Navarre donated tables, Publix lent the organizers the scale, and Winn-Dixie donated the ice.The tournament weigh-in was conducted in the Cocodrie’s parking lot. The sponsors also thank American Home Loan, Inc.,Vermillion Mortgage, and 1-800-beachhouse.com. A percentage of the proceeds from this tournament will go toward rebuilding the Navarre Beach Fire Station.
